The goal of the project is to develop a first series of prototypes of a high power ultrasound transducer capable of withstanding high temperature (150⁰C) and high pressure (70MPa).
High power ultrasound is used in a wide variety of applications ranging from cleaning jewelry and automotive parts, sewage processing, fabric and food cutting, to welding and machining. It also has a potential for improved drilling, enhanced oil recovery, drilling fluid processing and many other applications within oil & gas and other industries.
“This project represents a new development for high power ultrasound into higher temperature and pressure regimes, and constitutes a technology enabler for new applications. State-of-the-art technology is limited to about 100⁰C and 1MPa. We hope the new solution can open up new markets within ultrasonic cleaning, oil & gas, and potentially other applications as well” says InPhase project manager Marco M. Voormolen.
